This is what cruelty looks like inside 26 Federal Plaza.
For WEEKS, 🧊 own officials were sounding the alarm to each other — and they did nothing. They knew exactly what they were doing. At 26 Federal Plaza, they crammed human beings into tiny cages with no beds, no showers, no full-time medical staff. Not for a night. For weeks.
Look at the numbers: In just four days in early June 2025, Hold Room 1 went from 8 people to MORE THAN 80. One room. A 30-by-30 foot concrete box with hard floors, concrete benches, and three metal toilets. Do the math. That’s less than 12 square feet per person. You can’t even lie down. People were forced to sleep sitting upright, shoulder to shoulder, breathing in the stench of unwashed bodies because this government won’t even give them soap, a shower, or space to breathe.
And the medical neglect is criminal. People with tuberculosis, an ovarian cyst, kidney failure — left to deteriorate with no proper care because ICE refused to staff medical personnel. Their own texts and emails prove it.
When asked about it,  hid. They refused to answer. They are hiding behind “ongoing litigation” because there is no defense for this.
And the most obscene part: there are NO laws governing how much space immigrant detainees must have in ICE field offices. No minimum. That loophole is intentional. It was built to allow exactly this kind of torture to happen in plain sight, on the 10th floor of a federal building in New York City.
This isn’t overcrowding. This is dehumanization by design.
