1.11.25–resharing our story in time for elections.
My husband was granted “voluntary departure” by a judge. Essentially leaving the country of his own volition.
Instead of permitting him to take his own flight, the government began dragging him through FOUR separate facilities in THREE different states.
Privately owned third-party facilities funded by hard earned American Taxpayer dollars. The extra month+ he spent in the facility after a judge’s order was still paid for by YOU.
Then he was put on a deportation flight to Brazil. With American Taxpayer money. Not my money I had saved for his flight home.
Regardless of what your stance is on immigration as a whole—Now having these facts, I would hope we can all agree that third-party, privately-owned detention centers should not be using OUR tax dollars to hold immigrants in custody longer just for profit. That’s our fucking money. Go be lazy on someone else’s dime.
We have elections approaching and this is serious. Let’s find a way to come together with focusing on what we can agree on ⬇️
We are broke.
Our taxes are too high.
Taxes are being spent on funding deportation flights, ICE, detention centers.
Facilities are keeping immigrants longer than necessary.
Each day an immigrant is in an ICE facility costs money.
If we sent immigrants to their home countries in a timely manner it would save money.
…as for the money saved…we could use it to address the other 927289202 ailments plaguing this country.
