so.mexican A Mexican woman married to an active-duty U.S. Army soldier is facing possible deportation, leaving the couple worried about being separated for years. Rosa Olson, originally from Tabasco, Mexico, entered the United States on a student visa in June 2024, according to her husband, Jacob Olson. She attended El Paso Community College and traveled to Germany with her husband in 2025 while she was still taking classes. The couple later began the process of obtaining her green card. However, Rosa received a notice placing her in deportation proceedings. Her family maintains that she entered the country legally, something the Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged. DHS argues that she overstayed her authorized stay and that pending immigration applications do not automatically grant legal status. Her attorney says an immigration judge has refused to dismiss the case, leaving Rosa facing the possibility of returning to Mexico. The situation has taken an emotional toll on the couple. Jacob fears that his military assignments could keep him from seeing his wife for as long as four years if she is deported. Rosa expressed her heartbreak, saying, “I feel scared, I feel pain in my heart; it feels horrible.” Despite the uncertainty, the couple remains hopeful they can stay together. Rosa’s next immigration court hearing is scheduled for October 22. View all 351 comments
