kdrvnewswatch12 MEDFORD, Ore. - A Medford woman is speaking out after her husband was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported to Mexico. Margarita Bracamontes Torres' husband Oscar Bracamontes Torres was picked up at work one morning. She said the impact has been devastating for her entire family, especially their children. "I already know. Daddy was taken, huh?" Margarita said. "And I said, 'No.' And he's like, 'Yes, you're lying to me.'" Margarita said she wishes she had been notified sooner. She believes if she had heard just a few hours earlier, she might have been able to keep her husband in the country. "It was 1:00 p.m. when I got the call, and if I could have found out sooner, he could have been released right then and there with a habeas corpus petition," Margarita said. "But we didn't get told until 1:00 p.m., and he was already in transport to Tacoma, Washington." Margarita said the detention paperwork did not accurately reflect where Oscar was picked up. "It doesn't even state that they picked him up at his workplace," Margarita said. "It states that they picked him up at the ICE facility here in Medford. It doesn't even state that they picked him up at work." NewsWatch 12 tried to get in contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement locally in Medford but could not get through. Local law enforcement directed him to the Tacoma facility. The news team is awaiting a response at the time of publication. Oscar was first held in Tacoma for 30 days before being transferred to Natchez, Mississippi. Margarita said the distance made it impossible to visit him. "First he was in Tacoma, I think it was for 30 days. Then from there he was transferred to Natchez, Mississippi," Margarita said. "So it was a really far distance, and I didn't even get a chance to visit him in Tacoma. He told me that he really wouldn't want me to have seen him that way anyways, 'cause they transport them to the visits in shackles and in handcuffs." Margarita said her children struggled during the detention. One of her children wrote a letter to ICE. For the full story, visit the link in our bio. View all 30 comments
