For nearly a year, our client Rodrigo, a lawful permanent resident living with advanced throat cancer and other serious medical conditions, endured substantial medical neglect while held in ICE custody at the California City Detention Facility.
Despite his urgent medical needs, Rodrigo faced repeated delays and denials of necessary care. During his detention, he suffered two strokes, and his throat cancer went without proper treatment as the tumor in his throat grew to the size of a lemon.
Senior Staff Attorney Victoria Petty filed a habeas petition on Rodrigo's behalf and secured his release. Now free from detention, Rodrigo is speaking out about the dangerous conditions and medical neglect he endured in ICE custody and the devastating impact they had on his health.
