21-year-old Samuel Gonzalez Terrones was diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia and begun to receive treatment just one month before ICE agents abducted his mother. Minerva Terrones Dominguez was headed to the grocery store when she was picked up by federal agents.

Samuel’s mental health began to deteriorate. Sometimes he was so desperate for help he would call the police to come save him.

After two months of being apart from his mother, Samuel took his own life by jumping onto an active railroad crossing. His mother was released and allowed to attend his funeral but she still faces an uncertain future.

“To the ICE agent who took away my mother: I hope it was worth it,” Samuel wrote in his final note. “I can’t handle anymore injustices in this world.”
