spiritualword A Michigan nurse has been criminally charged after allegedly helping an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainee escape from a hospital. According to a federal criminal complaint filed by a Department of Homeland Security investigator, the nurse, identified as Freeman, was working at a Trinity Health facility when she removed the undocumented immigrant from a CT scan room. Security footage subsequently captured the man fleeing through the hospital’s ambulance bay doors. He remains at large. Investigators stated that during an interview on June 18, Freeman admitted to letting the individual walk away. According to the complaint, she stated that she did not agree with ICE separating families and explicitly told investigators she knew she “was going to set him free”. Freeman also noted that she believed the man could have died from his injuries and did not believe he was technically in custody because ICE agents were not physically inside the room with him.
