🇭🇹 A professional boxer who spent more than 20 years living in the United States says he has now been deported to Haiti, a country he says he was never born in, has never lived in and where he has no family or support.
Jay Dabelus says he was born in the Bahamas and left there around age 6 before eventually spending more than two decades in the U.S.
After being deported to Cap-Haïtien, he said:
🗣️ “I don’t know anything about Haiti. I wasn’t born here.”
He also said he has no resources, relatives or people in Haiti who can help him.
The deportation comes as ICE arrests continue to surge nationwide.
🚨 ICE arrested 49,571 people in July alone, the highest monthly total of Trump’s second term.
That was:
📈 15% higher than June 📈 70% higher than February
And more than half of those arrested in July reportedly had no criminal conviction or pending criminal charge.
Dabelus was among more than 50 people deported to Haiti on Thursday, including two minors.
The flight landed in Cap-Haïtien because Port-au-Prince’s main international airport remains too dangerous amid widespread gang violence.
