christinalorey If you CLAIM to care about “protecting women” — you better care about THIS: ICE is denying women in custody tampons and pads, forcing them to bleed through their clothes 🤬 A report from the federal watchdog “Government Accountability Office” found that women in ICE custody are being forced to use toilet paper, rags, and mattress fillings after being denied menstrual care. The report, which surveyed officials across 52 ICE locations, found women are receiving as few as 12 pads per month. For reference, the average menstruating person needs 3 - 6 products per DAY over a 7 day cycle. While federal prisons are mandated to provide accessible menstrual products at all times, rules at ICE facilities are vague and unclear. Several women reported bleeding through their clothes in ICE custody, and others state the pads ICe provides are of such poor quality that they must use several at a time.
