expressnews Maria Rocio Rocha, the mother of U. S. Naval Academy midshipman David Garcia, was deported to Mexico Wednesday night after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Rocha was detained Aug. 25 while attending a green-card interview at a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office, according to Congressman Joaquin Castro’s office. She was later transferred to the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in South Texas. Castro said Thursday that Rocha was deported after his office worked to secure her release. Castro, who nominated Garcia for the U.S. Naval Academy earlier this year, said Rocha had been in the process of obtaining a green card and was “doing everything the right way.” Read the full story at the link in our bio.
