So many of you asked the same question after we shared Noor Nafea Salman’s story: how can they detain a lawful permanent resident for eight months?

Here’s what her legal filings show. In 2017, Noor shared a discount card given to her by the store she worked at with her parents. For that, she was convicted of embezzlement under $200. She served her sentence, and for the next six years reported to ICE at every required check-in, exactly as asked.

On October 9, 2025, she went to what should have been a routine check-in. Instead, she was detained. Eight months later, Noor is still locked away at Diamondback Detention Center in Oklahoma.

Her asthma has become severe enough to hospitalize her more than once.
