myvoicemychoiceorg Ricardo Hernández Navarrete, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate from Chicago, says he spent 2 months and 10 days in ICE detention and was transferred to six different facilities without knowing where he would go next or how long he would stay. He says he was repeatedly pressured to sign deportation papers, held in solitary confinement for two days without explanation, strip-searched, served food that made detainees sick, and denied contact with others until he screamed for help. Now released, Ricardo says he is required to wear a GPS monitor on his wrist and take a daily photo through the device. No one should have to live in fear, uncertainty, or constant surveillance after release. Human dignity does not end with detention. View all 66 comments
