For the past 16 days, we’ve been fighting a silent and painful battle.
My father, Gabriel, has been in ICE custody in Georgia and now Texas.
During that time, our family listened helplessly in the background of his phone calls as he begged for medical care while his condition deteriorated. We have recordings of him telling us he was repeatedly denied adequate food and water, denied prescribed medication, ignored when he asked for help, and mocked when he pleaded for the care he needed.
This morning, he suffered a stroke.
He is now hospitalized in Texas and we have not been allowed to speak with him, and we don’t know what happens next..We have escalated this to the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General as of tonight.
To be very clear: my father needs time at home with his family to recover.
We are terrified that once he is medically cleared(paralyzed or not), he could be placed on an aircraft alone and sent to a country he has never been to before while recovering from a stroke.
I am sharing my father’s story because this is not just our family’s nightmare. It is a human rights issue. If anyone has legal resources, media contacts, advocacy connections, or any way to help bring my father home, please reach out. #immigrationreform #ice #abolishice #BringHimHome #ICEDetention ICEAccountability FamiliesBelongTogether EndDetention HumanRightsNotHandcuffs StopThirdCountryDeportation MedicalNeglectInDetention ImmigrantJustice KeepFamiliesTogether FreeGabriel JusticeForGabriel ICEOversight DHSAccountability
