As ICE raids and fires raged throughout the Southland, a small family in Bell Gardens was looking forward to celebrating their daughter’s 8th grade culmination.

But a few days before graduation, their father, Miguel Lorenzana Márquez, also known as Mike, received a call from his immigration attorney informing him he had an appointment with USCIS at 9 a.m. that same day.

Shortly after he checked in, Márquez was detained by ICE agents. His family had no idea that by dinner time, they would be separated by steel doors and unanswered questions.
