Imagine being a kid and learning that both your parents have been arrested by ICE. You’ll need to pay rent and survive on your own.

That’s what the Perez kids are going through. They’re all US citizens and have lived in Florida, near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, their whole lives. As immigration enforcement sweeps the country and rips apart families, thousands of children like the Perezes are being left behind. The Brookings Institution estimates that 205,000 kids—including 145,000 US citizens—have likely had a parent detained in the past year and a half.

On this week’s Reveal, in collaboration with filmmakers Max Maldonado and Jose Jesus Zaragoza and @motherjonesmag reporters Samantha Michaels and Isabela Dias, we shadow the Perez siblings as they face an impossible situation: to maybe move to Guatemala to be with their parents or stay in Florida as a family torn apart.
