A British man has been held in an ICE detention facility in Louisiana for more than a month and a half after he was dragged away from his American wife and three-year-old twin sons before being flown across the country as part of President Trump’s immigration crackdown.⁠

Connor Read, 29, has lived in Florida since he was nine years old. The Department of Homeland Security is now trying to deport the father of two, citing his arrest almost a decade ago for bringing a backpack of beers to a lakeside party while underage, along with other minor crimes.⁠

He has spent more than seven weeks incarcerated in a Louisiana detention centre alongside men who went to prison for drug trafficking and domestic violence offences.⁠

Originally from Chatham in Kent, Read was brought to the US as a child by his mother and his stepfather. He was seized by ICE agents after he was invited to a green card interview in Tampa on June 3. ⁠

At the immigration centre he was separated from his wife, Jaelin, 25, and his twin sons Ryder and Ozzie, three, under the pretence that he needed to be interviewed alone.⁠
