dailycal Update 7/16/2026: This article was updated to reflect that ICE confirmed the arrest of a Berkeley resident. San Francisco U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a man in Berkeley last week as part of the first known immigration operation in the city during the second Trump administration. The 30-year-old man came to the U.S. in 2024 from Morocco, according to an ICE spokesperson. They said that he later violated the terms of that visa, and is currently in ICE custody, pending legal proceedings. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Diplomatic Security Service special agents were both involved in the July 9 operation, according to a State Department spokesperson. The Diplomatic Security Service is the State Department’s primary law enforcement and security arm.
