It took our team more than nine months to help Daniel, a man with mental disabilities so severe he is under a family conservatorship, to get paroled back into the United States after he was arrested by ICE while collecting recyclables in his neighborhood. Daniel could not advocate for himself while he was detained since he doesn't speak very much English or Spanish, and as a result ICE deported him within a week of the arrest. Daniel was found in Tijuana at a hospital. His nephew Christopher now breathes easier that his uncle is back with his family. Chris shared with @theguardian that it's helped seeing Angelenos push back on Trump’s immigration enforcement policies. “It’s really now just on the most confident and the bravest of us to get in front of the right people to push for real change,” he said.
