immdef_lawcenter When we talk about the inhumanity of detention, this is exactly the level this administration is willing to sink to - punishing an attorney for giving their client water. Our client went 30 hours without access to drinking water which has become a routine cruelty inside the Adelanto ICE prison, no matter how loudly they claim to provide “adequate food and water.” During a meeting, the client was visibly suffering from thirst, and the attorney did the most basic, human thing imaginable: they gave them water. For that act of compassion, the attorney was kicked out of the detention center, even though the legal visit wasn’t finished. Then, the facility wrote a letter (that they gave to the client to give to the attorney🧐) banning the attorney from face‑to‑face visits until further notice. Our attorney is now restricted to non‑contact visits behind a barrier, punished for a policy that was not made visible or explicitly disclosed. In the time it took them to draft that letter, they could have filled the water jugs inside the dorms. They could have treated human beings like human beings. Instead, they opted to retaliate. And let’s be clear: Adelanto ICE prison is run by GEO Group, a corporation paid over $142 million every year just to operate this one facility. This is what happens when human rights collide with a corporation’s bottom line. This is what happens when suffering becomes a business model.
