Immigration officials sent her anyway. Zapata had already been barred from deportation to Colombia, where a court found she would likely face torture. Instead, she was sent to a third country as part of Trump’s deal with other nations. She is one of at least a dozen Latino immigrants who were quietly deported to the Democratic Republic of Congo last month as part of Trump’s third-country program. The Congo government says this is only temporary and they must be eventually returned — so this is like placing them in deportation limbo. She is currently staying in a hotel outside Kinshasa.
