Alejandra and Cristian never thought it would happen to them and then, it did. On Feb. 4 Cristian was going to a new job when ICE agents detained him and brought him to Whipple Federal Building. He was transferred to immigration detention centers in Texas, and then Louisiana.
Now, Alejandra is the sole provider for her two sons. She's trying to make ends meet while saving for plane tickets back to Colombia, where Cristian self-deported to.
Alejandra and Cristian both had asylum claims when they arrived in the U.S., but their experience with ICE made it clear to them -- they are not welcomed here.
“We weren't born here, and our lives aren’t meant to be here, so we’ll just be heading home.”
