Alejandra and Cristian never thought it would happen to them and then, it did. On Feb. 4 Cristian was going to a new job when ICE agents detained him and brought him to Whipple Federal Building. He was transferred to immigration detention centers in Texas, and then Louisiana.⁠

Now, Alejandra is the sole provider for her two sons. She's trying to make ends meet while saving for plane tickets back to Colombia, where Cristian self-deported to. ⁠

Alejandra and Cristian both had asylum claims when they arrived in the U.S., but their experience with ICE made it clear to them -- they are not welcomed here. ⁠
