The Trump administration is seeking to deport “Ricky” Chandee to Laos over a conviction from the early 1990s.

Chandee entered ICE detention on Jan. 24 during the surge of federal agents in Minnesota. Hours after his arrest, he was flown to Texas and detained at the El Paso Processing Center. From there, he was transferred to nearby Camp East Montana. In late February, ICE moved him back to the El Paso center during a measles outbreak in Camp East Montana.

His family continues to work to keep him in the U.S. His wife, Tina Huynh-Chandee, also keeps in touch with six other families in Minnesota with loved ones who've been detained. Together, they field rumors about when flights are leaving El Paso for Laos, but they never know for sure until it happens.
