The U.S. government has deported a U.S. citizen.
A 25-year-old man, Brian José Morales García, says he was born in Denver, Colorado and has documentation to prove it—including a birth certificate and Social Security record.
After a traffic stop in Central Texas, he was detained, held for days, and ultimately deported to Mexico.
He told officers he was a U.S. citizen. He says his documents were at home. Instead of pausing to verify that claim, immigration authorities were called when he couldn’t immediately produce identification.
Now, DHS is disputing his citizenship and claims he admitted to entering the U.S. unlawfully.
Let’s be clear:
A U.S. citizen should never be deported.
This is what happens when systems move faster than verification and due process is ignored.
We are fighting to bring him back—and to hold the government accountable.
