Buffalo is home to one of the largest Myanmar communities in US. The Trump administration moved to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Myanmar citizens last November, arguing that conditions for safe return had been met by the lifting of the state of emergency and the planned election. However, a federal judge indefinitely suspended the termination in January, leaving around 4,000 Myanmar asylum seekers under TPS protected from deportation.
