Cristina Mejia, from Waco, is covering bills and caring for her two younger brothers, 18 and 5, while her mom remains in custody. She says the hardest part isn’t just the responsibility, it’s not having her mom at home. She’s only able to talk to her a few times a day by phone, and says the adjustment has been overwhelming.
