MOTHER FORCED TO LEAVE KIDS AND HUSBAND IN GOVERNMENT DEPORTATION

ℹ️ Kim and Jack from the @manlyobserver team are currently in a small town in South Australia for an independent news convention (@localindependentnews). Jack stumbled across this family this weekend and we’ve elected to share the story on our channels to amplify it in partnership with the local paper. For a more detailed article about it, pop on over to @murraybridgenews.

The story: A mother living in the South Australian town of Murray Bridge is facing deportation, permanently separated her from her Australian husband and their three Australia-born children.

The woman came over from Taiwan to work at a local meat processing facility, where she later met and married a local man and settled into community life. However, authorities have determined that she provided incorrect information on her visa application twelve years ago, after failing to declare a previous visit to Australia made under her Burmese name.

The government says the visa breach means they remove her from the country within 28 days, sending her back to Taiwan while her husband and Australian-born children remain behind.

The local community is now rallying behind the family, calling on authorities to allow her to stay on compassionate grounds.
