mattlittleforcongress Over a month ago, Andrea Pedro-Francisco was supposed to have surgery for the tennis-ball-sized cyst on her ovary. Now ICE refuses medical treatment for Andrea as she suffers in a packed, squalid cell 800 miles from home. The pain from the cyst is so excruciating that before ICE grabbed Andrea, her doctors prescribed an opioid painkiller. ICE will only allow her Tylenol. The cyst has grown so large that it could cut off her blood supply and even rupture. Andrea was detained by ICE on her way to work. Now, after being shipped to a facility in Texas, she’s being kept in one room with 60 other people. Andrea and the other detainees get only one hour outside per day. ICE refuses to provide medical care, instead telling Andrea she can go to a hospital in another country if she agrees to self-deport. She has no criminal record, and she has been legally seeking political asylum and living in the US for years. ICE has cut off almost every legal path for her freedom, including stonewalling multiple members of Congress and a team of pro bono attorneys. Enough. I can’t believe this is happening in America. This kind of blatant cruelty is beyond even the most vicious regimes. Congress must stand up against the Trump administration, against ICE, and against their inhuman behavior. View all 342 comments
