reprorights Lucia* was pregnant when ICE detained her, according to a reporting from @ACLU_nationwide . One night, she began experiencing heavy bleeding and severe cramping and urgently requested medical help. Instead of immediate care, Lucia was left alone for hours without food, water, information, or pain medication. When she was finally transported to a hospital a whole day later, her arms and legs were shackled. Doctors later confirmed she had miscarried—and she had lost so much blood that she required a transfusion. Even after being returned to detention, Lucia continued suffering severe pain and bleeding for more than a month. What’s happening inside these facilities is dangerous and it is wrong. We’re calling on members of Congress to visit ICE detention centers and investigate the conditions in which pregnant detainees and others are being held. Join us and take action today at the link in our bio now. *Per ACLU's reporting, Lucia’s name has been changed to protect her identity. View all 416 comments
