Children are being caught in the crosshairs of a mass deportation scheme.

Parents who step forward to reunite with children in federal custody are being arrested and placed into deportation proceedings, leaving many children stranded in shelters. What should be a process focused on child welfare is instead being used to tear families apart.

ImmDef currently represents 12 children in Southern California whose parents were detained shortly after coming forward to begin the reunification process.

As ImmDef Director of Legal Services Mickey Donovan-Kaloust told @laistofficial, “It's part and parcel of the chaos and cruelty that's marking this administration's approach to immigration policy. We've actually had children ask their parents to stop the reunification process because they're worried that they'll get detained.”

Children deserve to be with their families. They should not have to fear that they'll be used as bait simply because their parents tried to bring them home.��
