A Canadian mother (Tania Warner) and her 7-year-old autistic daughter were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Texas.
The incident happened March 14, 2026, at a border checkpoint in Sarita, Texas, while they were driving home from a baby shower.
The mother reportedly has:
A valid work visa (until 2030)
A Social Security Number
Legal authorization to live/work in the U.S.
Despite this, ICE detained her for additional checks and also took her daughter.
International child-protection standards state that:
▪︎ Children should never be detained for immigration reasons
▪︎ Detained children with disabilities face disproportionate harm.
Keeping a neurodivergent child in such conditions is a violation of their rights and safety.
