Two Durham children were deported along with their parents this week after a routine check-in with immigration officials, Siembra NC said on Thursday. ⁣

Siembra’s Andreina Malki said at a news conference in Durham that the family applied for asylum in 2022 after arriving in the US from Honduras, doing everything officials had asked of them. ⁣

The family was deported, and the children, Genesis, 11, and Denis, 6, were removed from their community, school, and classmates, Malki said.

CORRECTION: A earlier version of this caption misstated Denis' age. He is 6, not 8.
