They watched in horror as she was held at Chicago O'Hare airport for over 30 hours, then moved to ICE detention centers in Broadview, Illinois, and Dodge County, Wisconsin, until her phone eventually died.
Naqvi's family sought support from elected officials and local law enforcement to bring her home — but federal agents allegedly lied to their faces, denying that she was in their custody. On Saturday morning, Naqvi was finally freed from the Wisconsin detention center, but was forced to hitchhike to a hotel so she could get in contact with her family.
This is a terrifying sequence of events. ICE is willing to disappear people without a trace and lie about it, regardless of citizenship status.
