ICE transferred a 20‑year‑old New Jersey resident with a legal pathway to citizenship to a detention center in Louisiana this morning. Advocates at AFSC are warning that he could be deported at any moment.

Cristofer Ortega, of Plainfield, NJ, came to the U.S. at age 9. Last summer, as he was completing his HVAC certification program, he was racially profiled and detained by ICE despite having no criminal record, according to AFSC. He has been held in detention for months.

Cristofer has already been approved for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, which provides a legal pathway for him to obtain a green card. ICE is planning to deport him to Honduras before he can even apply.

AFSC is urging people to contact New Jersey Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim to help stop the deportation and bring Cristofer home.
