U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents stopped Maria Thursday morning after apparently racially profiling her, said Sandra Hernández, director of Latinos Unidos Siempre, a local youth immigrant support group.

Maria was on her way to pay rent and to buy a cake for her grandson’s birthday when she was stopped.

Immigration agents have profiled other U.S. citizens in Oregon but this stop appears to mark the first instance of extensive injuries to a citizen here.
