Lucía Pedro Juan and her husband Francisco Gaspar Cristóbal Andrés were both taken by I*E. Lucía was deported and Francisco was detained for 93 days. He died on Dec 3rd, 2025.

Francisco was 48 and worked for 20 years in the US. He and his wife raised five children and he regularly sent money to his parents. His wife Lucía is rebuilding in Guatemala with the 20 years of earnings from her husband.

Upon arrest, I*E ordered them to stay apart. Lucía refused, giving her husband a last hug and kiss.

From USA Today: “They also called the detainees pigs and told them they were feeding them dog food, she said. The insults came from guards whose ‘parents are immigrants like us.’

“She said she repeatedly begged to see her husband … ‘I told them, crying, ‘Please, I want to talk to my husband. I am heartbroken … They said nothing. Not even ‘Wait’ or ‘Let me check.’ Nothing. ‘No visits allowed.’”

The only reason that I*E has deported more people than their currently imprisoned 73,000 detainees is that the facilities—no, the concentration camps—are not being built fast enough.

By the end of 2029, I*E is planning to have 135,000 detention “beds” with their $45 billion federal budget. Each one is estimated to pay about $150 per detainee, or as high as $245 for Alligator Alcatraz, which is still open.
