so.mexican The family of a 5-year-old girl, whom they say is an American citizen, is urging authorities to locate her so she can be placed with relatives while her mother remains detained, after both were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Central Texas earlier this week. According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance call around 4:35 a.m. Monday in the West Oak Hill area but found no active incident or injuries. During the response, officers identified a woman with an ICE administrative warrant and, in line with department policy, notified federal authorities. ICE agents later took custody of the woman and her child. APD said ICE confirmed the mother and daughter are together. Advocacy group Grassroots Leadership identified the child as Génesis Ester Gutiérrez Castellanos and said the family has been unable to locate her in multiple government databases since Monday. The group says the family is seeking custody arrangements so the child can remain with relatives while her mother is detained. View all 3,262 comments
