leemerrittesq On December 11, 2025, Jean Wilson Brutus, a 41-year-old Haitian man, was transferred to the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark. He showed no signs of distress during intake and had no known history of cardiovascular issues. Less than 24 hours later, he was dead. ICE waited a full week to even acknowledge his death publicly. This was the first death at Delaney Hall since it reopened under a billion-dollar contract with private prison company GEO Group. A healthy man does not walk into government custody and die within 24 hours without someone being held accountable. This is what happens when we allow corporations to profit from caging human beings. Deaths become line items, not tragedies. Jean Wilson Brutus came here seeking a future, and instead he got a casket. His family deserves the truth. The Haitian community deserves justice. And we will not stop asking questions until they get both. Say his name. View all 220 comments
