Emmanuel Sackie is a Liberian-born, naturalized U.S. citizen. He had a driver’s license. He had photo ID. ICE demanded “more proof” anyway.
He was violently detained in a Family Dollar parking lot in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, taken to an unknown location, and sent to the hospital.
“This is America, a place of equal rights… but that’s not how I was treated,” he said. “I was treated like an animal.”
This was the first time he’d ever been in handcuffs.
If citizenship doesn’t protect you, if ID isn’t enough, if brown and Black bodies are still presumed guilty—then the problem isn’t “immigration.” It’s power with no accountability.
