ICE violently detained Jose Martinez, a U.S. citizen and Coast Guard veteran, while he was asleep in his cruise ship cabin. Agents jumped on the bed, tackled his wife Tamara Verhas while she was undressed, and ripped the phone from her hand so she couldn’t record.
They were eventually released—but only after being forced to delete every photo and video of what happened.
“This is not the country I served for,” he said. “And it’s not the America I knew 10 years ago.”
This happened on the last day of a Carnival cruise in the Caribbean. If this can happen to a veteran and a U.S. citizen—on a cruise ship— ask yourself who’s actually protected anymore.
This is about power. This is about intimidation. And this should terrify all of us.
