The family of Leticia Jacobo is convinced that had there not been quick intervention by Indigenous rights groups, the 24-year-old Native American woman, jailed in Iowa for a traffic infraction, would have been sent to an ICE Detention Center and deported earlier this month. Rights experts say that her case is an example of how ICE racial profiling, lack of due process, and incentives to deport people are endangering Black and Brown U.S. citizens. A recent ProPublica report documented that more than 170 U.S. citizens have been snatched up and detained by ICE.
