My dad has been a paletero in San Diego for the last 30 years and is being deported this week, alongside my mom.

Due to the incredible support from the community, he was able to fulfill a big dream of his before he left: to give away his ice cream for free for the children that he has enjoyed serving.

My dad truly enjoys seeing a child’s face light up with excitement and joy from the simple pleasures of an ice cream on a hot day, and because of everyone’s amazing support, he was able to do just that on the last day that he officially “sold” (rather, gave away) ice cream to his San Diego community.

Thank you everyone. I started this journey by simply wanting to share my dad’s story and help him reach out to his beloved San Diego community to share his goodbyes, but this soon became so much bigger and greater than we could have possibly imagined. Without even asking, the community graciously extended their support via kind words and conversations, offers of support towards my family and I, and financially via donations.

This is absolutely insane and words fail to express how incredible this truly is.

Thank you for graciously providing love and comfort to my family in one of the most painful moments of our lives.

Truly, God bless you all ❤️
