After Bovino was caught lying and reprimanded by a court for blatant abuses of power, he went right back to the streets of La Villita Chicago, IL today threatening violence and terrorizing communities.
Bovino, who was tasked with leading “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago, admitted to lying about a rock-throwing incident used to justify deploying tear gas against protesters.
“Mr. Bovino and the Department of Homeland Security claimed that he had been hit by a rock in the head before throwing the tear gas, but video evidence disproves this. And he ultimately admitted he was not hit until after he threw the tear gas,” U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis said Thursday.
Coincidentally, DHS defied court order to provide footage of Bovino throwing tear gas.
Video of that Oct. 23 incident showed Bovino throwing a gas canister at demonstrators in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood without giving a verbal warning — a violation of the judge’s earlier temporary restraining order limiting the use of force, the judge said.
Ellis issued a preliminary injunction against federal immigration agents over their use of force during Operation Midway Blitz, telling lawyers for the Trump administration she found their evidence “simply not credible,” rejecting their request for a stay pending appeal.
Ellis said she’s found “this conduct [by federal agents] shows no sign of stopping” and didn’t stop after she initially issued and expanded her temporary restraining order.
She said neighbors have also indicated they intend to continue protesting immigration enforcement operations.
Meanwhile, Bovino believes he has unlimited authority to continue lying and terrorizing communities of Chicago with unlimited impunity.
