Officials with the Culver City Police Department are denying involvement in the arrest of a DUI suspect by federal immigration authorities outside one of the department’s stations.In a statement released Monday, officials said that on March 8 Culver City police arrested an individual after a traffic collision, “in which the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs and in possession of controlled substances and an illegal weapon.”The unidentified individual was booked at the police department and released March 9 on a promise-to-appear citation.Officials said that moments after the suspect was escorted off police department property, they were taken into custody by federal agents near the front of the police station.Culver City Police Department seen in this undated image. (Google Maps)“Culver City police personnel were not notified in advance that federal authorities intended to take this action, and CCPD officers did not assist with or participate in the detention,” the statement noted. Orange County deputy fatally shot fiancée in head at close range, prosecutors say The department’s statement went on to say that CCPD does not participate in immigration enforcement and abides by California law, including the California Values Act, which prohibits law enforcement from asking about a person’s immigration status, detaining individuals for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or assisting in immigration enforcement operations.“We remain committed to maintaining trust with our community and want residents to feel safe contacting the Culver City Police Department to report crimes, seek help, or cooperate with investigations without fear that local police will be involved in immigration enforcement,” officials said.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
