Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested six people Friday in Woodstock, the agency confirmed Tuesday. Those taken into custody ranged in age from 23 to 48 and were originally from Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador, a spokesperson from ICE’s Midwest public affairs office said in an email. The spokesperson referred to one of those arrested as a “criminal illegal alien,” saying the person had been convicted of a weapons offense in 2024. The others detained were each referred to by the agency as an “illegal alien.”Federal authorities said the serving of a warrant in a drug-related investigation – apparently about 2½ hours later at the same Woodstock location – was unrelated to the immigration enforcement activity.A DEA spokesperson said the agency and Illinois State Police, with support from the FBI, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Police Department, executed federal warrants about 10:40 a.m. Friday, resulting in one arrest. The officers executed the warrants in the 700 block of Lake Avenue in Woodstock “as part of an ongoing federal drug trafficking investigation,” the spokesperson said.A group that monitors immigration enforcement had reported, and posted a photo appearing to show, ICE agents taking someone into custody at what was described as the same location as the DEA activity, but about a hour and a half earlier Friday. The ICE official said Tuesday that immigration officers from its Chicago officer “were conducting targeted enforcement operations Sept. 11 in Woodstock, Illinois, when they identified and encountered Alex Francisco Diaz-Quintanilla, 47.” The official said Diaz-Quintanilla had the 2024 weapons conviction. It’s not clear where that conviction happened. ICE said officers also arrested Israel Espinal-Diaz, 48, from Mexico; Daniel Nehemias Martinez-Esteban, 30, from Guatemala; Lazaro Cruz-Morales, 43, from Mexico; Gabriel Martinez-Quintanar, 26, from Mexico and Jayson Josiel Ruiz-Figueroa, 23, from Honduras. ICE said all of them were living in the U.S. illegally. “All individuals remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and will receive due process under federal law,” the ICE spokesperson said. The ICE release also encouraged others in the country illegally to “self-deport now.”“Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure using the CBP Home app. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now,” according to the ICE statement.“We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and preserve the opportunity to return to the U.S. the right, legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without the chance to return,” according to the ICE statement. The Illinois TRUST Act prohibits local law enforcement from detaining people based on immigration status or cooperating with federal agencies in immigration enforcement.
