GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Protesters gathered at the Durango ICE Facility on October 28 in response to the detainment of a father and 2 children. According to the City of Durango, the two minors and their father were detained Monday after being pulled over. The children are ages 12 and 15. The city reports the demonstration turned violent as agents left the facility with the detained family. Compañeros: Four Corners Immigrant Resource Center said their organization has assisted the family with their asylum and confirms they “possess valid documentation proving their active and ongoing legal process.” Colorado State Patrol (CSP) responded to the facility on Tuesday at the request of local law enforcement to ensure public safety. They said the Patrol did not participate in immigration enforcement. “The Patrol’s role was to aid in de-escalation and protection of all parties present, maintain the peace, and address any identified unlawful behavior, wrote CSP. The City of Durango said they have requested assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding an incident where a federal agent allegedly pushed a protester.
