(WZTV) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it lodged an immigration detainer against a man charged in a July crash in Washington County that killed a Florida motorcyclist.Alfonso Vasquez-Morales, 33, is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication in connection with the July 7 crash on Highway 107 near Jackson Bridge, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.RELATED NEWS | Nursing mother detained by ICE in Nashville released, reunited with 2 daughtersDeputies said Vasquez-Morales’ vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle head-on shortly after 2 p.m. The motorcyclist, William Richard Sauer, 69, of Brooksville, Florida, was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, authorities said.The sheriff’s office said witnesses reported the vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. Deputies said Vasquez-Morales told them he had consumed “six or seven beers” before driving.In addition to the vehicular homicide charge, the sheriff’s office listed charges including reckless driving, driving without a license, possession of methamphetamine and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.CONTINUING COVERAGE | 'We’re going to change that': State wants Nashville Sheriff to comply with ICEICE said it lodged an immigration detainer against Vasquez-Morales. A detainer is a request from ICE to a local law enforcement agency to notify the federal agency before a person is released from custody.In its release, the agency said he told ICE officers that he entered the United States without authorization through Arizona and had lived in the country for about three years.The sheriff’s office said its crash reconstruction team was investigating and that additional charges could be filed.
