(WGME) Dozens of people stepping up to share their personal stories and speak about the growing presence of ICE agents and detentions across Maine."No child should fear going somewhere and not going back home. No child should fear going to school and coming back home and their parents not being there," Executive Director of Generational Noor Amran Osman said. This is one of the largest rallies held in Lewiston following the increased presence of ICE agents and the Department of Homeland Security's launch of "Operation Catch of the Day." In a statement put out earlier this week, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia Mclaughlin said, “We have launched Operation Catch of the Day to target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in the state. On the first day of operations, we arrested illegal aliens charged and convicted of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child."Advocates were in Lewiston rallying outside and inside the Agora Grand Event Center. (WGME) A handful of state and city officials were at Saturday's rally, including the mayors of Lewiston and Portland."The mayor and I have partnered to get our cities through this process as safely as possible," Portland Mayor Mark Dion said. "It shows that we are not cowed by fear, We are out here mobilizing, neighbors are caring for neighbors. It's really a beautiful thing," Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline said.
