The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, provided more details this Friday (06/05/26) about the arrest of former military officer Enrique Martínez by ICE agents in Los Angeles. The former member of the Mexican army has an arrest warrant issued by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for his alleged involvement in the Ayotzinapa case. According to information shared by the president during the People's Conference in Veracruz, the arrest of Enrique Martínez was not the result of a special operation, but rather part of a 'immigration raid' conducted by ICE in Los Angeles, where the former soldier—linked to the disappearance of the 43 students—was found. "In reality, rather than being specifically targeted, he was found during one of the regular raids that this U.S. agency conducts, and that is how they detected the arrest warrant issued by Mexico," said Claudia Sheinbaum. She clarified that he is not among the individuals convicted in the United States whom Mexico has requested the Trump administration extradite for their involvement in the Ayotzinapa student case. Sheinbaum revealed that among those Mexico is requesting from the United States is former magistrate judge at the Iguala Municipal Police headquarters, José José Ulises Bernabé García.
