Since University of Alabama doctoral student, Alireza Doroudi was detained Tuesday March 25, some students are outraged and said it never should have happened."He did come from a different country to the United States to go to school here," Necy Breveard, a UA student, said. "So if anything, they should have had a meeting or something to talk about his status instead of just going to his house and picking him up."Students and organizations took to social media to show their support for Doroudi by reposting the Crimson White's and other organization's Instagram posts to spread the word in support."I think most students are just raising awareness to it," Bryanna Taylor, a UA student, said. "So they're sharing I believe a news article by the Crimson White, but it's mostly just people sharing about it and telling others that it's here at UA on our campus."Students say they have seen students at other university's being detained on the news, but never expected to see it on their own campus.This is spreading concern among international students who may now be worried about their own legal status and fear being detained."And I've talked to plenty of international students and I would hate that they come here, pay to go to school here and they get detained by I.C.E." Breveard said. "Since he was detained I feel like a lot of students are like probably checking their status as well and the paperwork."This incident affects not only UA's international students, but their family and friends who are now afraid of this happening to somebody they love."I know so many people, half of my family is international students of course it's going to instill fear," Tony Aad, student at Northern Virginia Community College. "Now they are going to go to school wondering like if somebody is going to come and get them."Taylor said it's now scary to think about their classmates, people they see regularly, not showing up one day."It could be anyone in our classes who we may not see anymore because they're going to get taken away." Taylor said.Taylor said unfortunately she could see this happening again. {jp}
