(AP Photo/Elaine Thompson, File)LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Apparent federal immigration enforcement officials pursued a vehicle through the Western State Hospital campus on Friday morning before the incident ended in the parking lot of Steilacoom High School, according to local authorities.The incident began at approximately 6:30 a.m. when apparent uniformed federal immigration enforcement officers operating unmarked vehicles with activated red and blue emergency lights chased a vehicle through the Western State Hospital parking lot and onto Sentinel Drive.The pursuit ended in the parking lot of Steilacoom High School, where the sole occupant of the vehicle, described as a middle-aged man, fled on foot. He was apprehended shortly afterward.Authorities said there are no indications the driver was a staff member, student, parent, or otherwise affiliated with the Steilacoom Historical School District. The involved car was not registered to an address in Pierce County, Steilacoom public safety officials said. The Steilacoom Department of Public Safety and the Town of Steilacoom were not involved in the immigration investigation or enforcement action, according to officials. Public safety personnel were notified of the incident only after all parties involved had left the area.Details about the incident were obtained through witness observations and circumstances observed at the scene after the event had concluded, authorities said.Because the incident occurred on the final day of school, Steilacoom public safety officers said they will increase their presence at school facilities as a precaution.
